The TSUMUGI was born from experiences that deeply moved me and a wish to share them with others. For over ten years, kimono has allowed me to be part of life's most meaningful celebrations. I've seen brides moved to tears at their first glimpse of themselves in wedding kimono, and families sharing in those emotions. Through Shichi-Go-San celebrations, I've also come to believe that a child's milestone is a parent's milestone too, honoring the years of love and care that brought them here.
My relationship with Japanese tea began in high school. Although I stepped away for many years, something about it continued to draw me back. When I returned, I discovered how deeply peaceful a simple bowl of matcha could be. The sound of water, the delicate movements, and the quiet attention to each gesture revealed a richness I wanted others to experience, even without formal lessons.
Then came a facial experience unlike any I had known. The gentle rhythm and warmth of the hands gave me a profound sense of comfort and reassurance. I wanted to share that feeling, so I set out to learn the art of offering it myself.
These experiences taught me that meaningful moments take many forms. A celebration shared with loved ones. A quiet moment enjoyed through the senses. The comfort of being gently cared for. I created the TSUMUGI to bring these experiences together, offering a welcoming place for both life's special occasions and the quieter moments of everyday life.

The Art of Paying Attention
OUR PHILOSOPHY
Our days are often filled with things to do and thoughts of what comes next. Sometimes, we become so caught up in our routines that we forget to experience the moment we are living in.
Yet when we slow down, we begin to notice the little things we might otherwise miss. A delicate sound, the grace of a simple movement, or the warmth of another person's hands.
At the TSUMUGI, we believe that what matters is not only what we do, but the care and intention we bring to it. We approach each moment with thoughtfulness, paying attention to others while cultivating a sense of calm within ourselves.
We believe that skill and genuine care are inseparable. We continue to refine our craft and deepen our sensitivity, not simply in pursuit of perfection, but because the moments entrusted to us matter.
Whether it is a significant milestone or an ordinary day, no moment will ever come again in quite the same way. That is why we cherish each encounter and the warmth and trust that grow between people. We believe these moments, woven together over time, are what give life its richness. This is the spirit at the heart of the TSUMUGI.

Weaving Moments, Connecting Lives
THE MEANING OF TSUMUGI
Tsumugi (紬) is a traditional Japanese silk textile, woven by bringing individual threads together.
In many ways, our lives are woven much the same way, shaped by the people we meet, the experiences we share, and the moments that stay with us.
The joy of celebrating with loved ones and the quiet moments of everyday life all become threads in the stories we carry.
Connecting people. Connecting generations. Connecting Japanese traditions with the lives we live today.
The name TSUMUGI reflects my wish to cherish these connections and the moments that bring us together.

Guided by Curiosity
A NOTE FROM SACHIKO
I've always preferred finding my own way over following a path laid out for me. School was never quite my thing, and in my early twenties, I was more interested in drifting my Toyota AE86 than following the rules. But one thing has always stayed with me: curiosity.
That curiosity took me beyond Japan, first to the United States and later to China. Along the way, I encountered different languages, cultures, and ways of life. Some experiences challenged what I thought I knew, while others opened my eyes to a world I had never imagined.
The farther I traveled from Japan, the more deeply I came to appreciate the culture I had grown up with. Traditions I once took for granted began to reveal a richness I had never fully noticed.
These experiences have shaped the way I see the world and continue to influence my work today.
I've also come to realize that turning inward and caring for our inner well-being is just as meaningful as exploring the world around us.
That is what inspired me to create the TSUMUGI. A welcoming place where people can gather, experience Japanese traditions, and enjoy moments of connection, discovery, and quiet reflection.
I look forward to welcoming you.
